Size limit
Compress a JPG to under 200 KB
Many forms reject photos over 200 KB. Use the quality slider in Compress JPG and watch the new file size until it drops below the limit.
Steps
- Open Compress JPG and choose your photo.
- Start at 80% quality and look at the size readout (original → new size).
- Lower the slider a step at a time until the new size is under 200 KB. Stop as soon as it fits, so you keep as much detail as possible.
- Download the JPG and upload that file to your form.
If it is still over 200 KB
Compress JPG changes quality, not pixel dimensions. A 12-megapixel phone photo can stay large even at low quality. Resize it first: most phones can crop or resize in the photo editor, or take a screenshot of the photo, which is usually much smaller. Then compress again.
Good to know
- 200 KB means about 200,000 bytes. Some sites count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so aim a little under, e.g. 190 KB.
- Crop away empty background before compressing. Fewer pixels means a smaller file without visible quality loss.
- Your photo is processed in the browser. It is not uploaded to JpgDesk.
