Compress a JPG for a visa application
Visa portals often cap photo and document uploads by file size. Compress JPG lowers the size in your browser so the file fits.
Before you start: check the official rules
Each country and portal sets its own requirements: file size range, pixel dimensions, background, and how recent the photo must be. Read them on the official government site. JpgDesk does not resize to exact pixel dimensions or check photo compliance; it only reduces file size.
Steps
- Start from a photo that already meets the dimension and background rules.
- Open Compress JPG and choose the file.
- Lower the quality slider until the size readout is inside the portal's limit. Stay as high as you can, since faces must stay sharp.
- Download and upload the new JPG to the portal.
Supporting documents
If the portal wants scans of documents as one PDF, combine page photos with JPG to PDF. For a hard size target, see compress a JPG to under 200 KB.
Watch out
- Some portals also set a minimum file size. Do not compress further than needed.
- Do not edit the face or background in ways the rules forbid.
FAQ
Will compression get my photo rejected?
It can if quality drops too far or if the portal has a minimum size. Use the highest quality that fits the limit and follow the official specifications.
Is my photo uploaded to JpgDesk?
No. Compression happens in your browser.
Is it free?
